Heilanstalten M.
"In isolated and decaying houses, [...],
there still sluggishly circulates
the ebbing blood of the past,
of a vigorous and vividly hued past."

The former hospital was officially opened in the year of 1899 as "Landesbezirkskrankenhaus" (district hospital). Thanks to the establishment of a foundation by a wealthy local business family the construction of the ensemble of buildings was made possible in the end. During World War II. the hospital was used as Soviet military hospital. After the end of the war, the Soviets established their own military hospital there which was in use until the Soviet troops left Germany in the beginning of the 1990s. Since then the buildings have been left to decay. Several fires, traces of vandalism and the ravages of time have noticeably left their marks on the building structure.
