In den 1890er Jahren wurde die alte Leichenhalle im neugotischen Stil, auf einem der ältesten Stadtfriedhöfe Deutschlands, errichtet. Sie gehört zu einem Ensemble, das aus dieser sowie einer Friedhofskapelle, die noch in Nutzung ist, besteht. Da das Leichenhaus weitestgehend im Original erhalten ist, macht es dieses zu einem besonderen Zeugnis der Sepulkralkultur.
The old mortuary which is located on one of the oldest city cemeteries of Germany was built in the 1890s in the neo-Gothic style. It is part of an ensemble of buildings to which also a funeral chapel belongs which is still in use. The fact that the mortuary is still largely preserved in its original state makes it a special testimony of the burial culture of past times.
